When to pause your ads (and when pausing costs you)

Reduce rather than stop. Turning ads off in a busy month empties the pipeline about six weeks later, and restarting means paying the learning cost again. Keep a maintenance budget and retargeting running, and cut the prospecting spend instead.

The delay is the trap

Patients who enquire this week often book for next month, which means today's full calendar reflects advertising you ran six weeks ago. Switch off while you are busy and you will not feel it until the quiet arrives — at which point restarting takes another few weeks to work.

That lag is why clinic revenue often swings in a cycle of feast and famine. The cure is not a bigger budget, it is a steadier one.

What to keep running when you cut

Keep retargeting and branded search live at a small budget — they are cheap, they catch people who were already close, and they preserve the audience data that makes restarting fast. Cut broad prospecting first, since that is the expensive half and the easiest to rebuild.

Also keep publishing. Organic content is what keeps the retargeting audiences alive while the paid spend is down, which is exactly why the two belong in one plan rather than two budgets.

Plan around the Kuwait calendar

Some pauses are correct. If your patients travel in August and your clinic runs a reduced schedule, spending the same as in October is waste. Plan the year with deliberate peaks and troughs — heavier before the social season, lighter during the summer exodus, adjusted around Ramadan behaviour rather than switched off during it.

Write the plan in advance, once, with the clinic's capacity in it. Reactive pausing in the middle of a busy week is how budgets get spent badly and blamed afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

We're fully booked. Isn't spending wasteful?+

Then shift the spend to the procedures you want more of rather than switching off. Being full is a case-mix opportunity, not a reason to stop.

Does the algorithm really reset when I pause?+

Campaigns re-enter a learning phase after significant changes or gaps, and short-term costs rise while they do. Frequent stop-start is expensive in exactly this way.

What about Ramadan?+

Behaviour shifts rather than disappears — timing, tone and demand all change. Adjust rather than pause, and plan approvals early because the calendar is fixed.
