Instagram fills the gym — it just does it slowly and by hand
Be fair to Instagram first. In Kuwait it is where people find a gym: a Reel from the floor in Salmiya, a story of the 7pm class, a friend tagging a friend. Nobody in this market discovers a gym on Google the way they do in Europe. Your feed does the job that word of mouth and a shopfront window do elsewhere, and a WhatsApp number closes the sale in the language people are comfortable in. Gyms here have grown past four hundred members on nothing else. Anyone telling you Instagram is dead is selling you something. It works. The real question is what it costs you to keep it working.
Here is the bill. Someone on your team spends two to three hours a day retyping the same four answers: how much is the monthly, what time are the women's hours, who takes the class, do you have parking. Half the people who ask at 11pm hear nothing until 10am, and by then they have walked into the place down the street. Prices get negotiated in the DMs because they were never stated, so the same package sells at 35 KD to one person and 28 KD to another. And nothing survives — the story with the new timetable is gone in twenty-four hours.

A page carries the five things a feed keeps losing
Start with the two that stop the DMs. Put every membership on one page with the actual number next to it: one month 40 KD, three months 100 KD, annual 320 KD, single class 6 KD, what the joining fee is, whether it freezes when someone travels in July. Then the timetable as a real table, day by day, with the trainer's name on each slot, edited once when Ramadan hours change instead of reposted eleven times. People screenshot a timetable and keep it. They cannot screenshot a story that expired last Tuesday, and they will not ask you twice.
Then the two that decide it. Give each trainer a proper page: name, certifications, languages spoken, which classes they take, one photo. People are choosing a person, not a building. And for the women-only side, write down what a feed cannot show without filming the floor — separate entrance and reception, covered glass, all-female staff including the front desk, the exact women-only hours, the phone and camera policy, private changing rooms, whether there is a female physiotherapist on site. That page answers a question a lot of women will never send you in a DM. They will simply not come if they cannot find it.
The fifth is the till. A sign-up form that takes KNET the moment someone decides beats a WhatsApp thread that goes cold overnight, and it works at 1am and through Eid when nobody is at reception. Once you have a checkout, the same one sells everything the gym already hands over the counter — apparel, bottles, supplements, an eight-week online coaching plan for members travelling in summer — and a Shopify store that runs memberships and products off one KNET checkout gets you there without building anything custom. That second line of income is usually what makes the decision easy.
The site pays for itself at two or three memberships
Numbers. A clean site for a gym in Kuwait — plans, timetable, trainer pages, a real women-only section, online sign-up, Arabic and English — lands between 400 and 900 KD built properly, plus roughly 10 to 25 KD a month to run. Anyone quoting 2,000 KD is selling you a design exercise; anyone quoting 90 KD is handing you a template you will replace within a year. If your annual membership sits near 300 KD, the whole build is paid back by the second or third person who signs up through it. That is a low bar, and most gyms clear it inside two months.
So the honest rule: build it once the DMs are eating half a staff member's day, or once you have more than one class type and more than four trainers. Below that — one studio, one coach, thirty members — stay on Instagram and put the money into the space. When you do build, time it before the two seasons that decide your year: January, and the week after Eid al-Fitr. Do not launch in July, when half of Kuwait is out of the country. And keep the feed exactly as it is. The site is not a replacement for it; it is where the feed sends people once they are ready.
