The test: does your customer ask ChatGPT a question first?
ChatGPT ads are matched to the topic of a conversation. That makes them a research channel, not a scrolling channel. The businesses that fit are the ones whose customers type a question before they buy: where to stay in Salalah during Khareef, which compound in Muscat suits a family, what a used SUV should cost, which school teaches the British curriculum in Al Mawaleh. If your customer never asks a question like that, the channel has little to offer you, whatever the price.
The second test is what happens after the click. A Sponsored placement is text with a link. It sends a person who is mid-research to your page. In Oman that person wants to read in Arabic, see that you are real, and talk to someone before committing. If your site cannot do those three things, the fit is poor no matter how good the sector is.
Tourism and hospitality: Muscat, Salalah and the Khareef
This is the clearest fit in Oman. Tourists planning a trip ask ChatGPT everything: itineraries, where to stay, whether to book a desert camp, what Khareef season is like. Hotels, resorts, tour operators, car-hire companies and desert-camp operators can place a Sponsored link under exactly those answers, in English for international visitors and in Arabic for GCC families driving down from Saudi and the UAE for Salalah's monsoon summer.
The seasonality helps rather than hurts. Khareef enquiries build months before summer; winter is Muscat's high season; Eid brings regional families. Topics can be switched on and off around each, and budget concentrated where intent is highest. The landing page must load fast on a roaming phone and show booking, WhatsApp and a phone number; many GCC visitors still prefer to call a hotel than fill a form.
Real estate, automotive and education
Real estate in Oman is a long, family-led decision, and it starts with questions: which areas are open to expat ownership, off-plan versus ready, rent in Al Mouj versus Qurum. Developers and brokers who answer those questions on an Arabic-first page, with a WhatsApp path to a named agent, are exactly who the Sponsored slot serves. Car dealers in Muscat and Sohar face the same pattern: people ask about models, running costs and finance before they visit a showroom.
Education is quieter but strong. Parents ask about curricula, fees, locations and admissions windows; adults ask about training centres and professional courses. A private school or institute with a clear Arabic and English page and an admissions WhatsApp line fits well. In all three sectors the sale closes weeks later, so measurement must count the first conversation as the win, which is why we set up conversion tracking properly before launch.
F&B and retail: only when the question exists
Restaurants and cafés in Oman live on Instagram and Snapchat, and that is where a craving is created. ChatGPT ads catch a different moment: someone asking where to take visiting family for Omani food in Muscat, which café near Shatti Al Qurum is good for a meeting, or where to order an Eid buffet. Destination restaurants, catering companies and venues with a reservation flow fit. A neighbourhood coffee shop mostly does not.
Retail follows the same rule. Considered purchases such as furniture, electronics, appliances, sports equipment and gifts for occasions get asked about and fit. Fast-fashion impulse buys do not. If you sell online, the checkout needs OmanNet as well as cards, and the product page needs to answer the question the person asked ChatGPT, not just show a price. A furniture showroom in Al Khoud that answers "what sofa fits a small majlis" on its page will do far better than one that lists prices and hopes.
Clinics: possible, but within the limits
OpenAI does not run ads around health and mental health topics. A dermatology clinic in Al Khuwair or a dental practice in Sohar therefore cannot appear under a conversation about a symptom or a treatment. What may remain is the practical, non-medical side: locations, opening hours, insurance accepted, booking. Whether that is enough to justify a budget is a case-by-case call, and Oman's advertising norms for medical claims are conservative regardless of channel.
For most clinics the better use of money is the organic answer. When someone asks ChatGPT for a good clinic, it names clinics from the open web based on consistent listings, plain-text credentials and real reviews. That is SEO and AI-search visibility work, and no ad budget replaces it. We will tell a clinic honestly if that is where their money should go first.
Who should wait, and how to find out
Wait if you have no Arabic landing page, if WhatsApp messages sit unanswered for hours, if your product is bought on impulse rather than after a question, or if your business cannot be advertised because its topic is sensitive. Also wait if the current status for Oman turns out to be a waitlist; rollout is staged by country and by plan, and we confirm before anything is spent.
Send us your website and what you sell in Oman on WhatsApp. We check availability for Oman, tell you plainly whether your sector and site fit yet, and if they do, what the first month looks like. If they do not, we tell you what to fix, which usually helps your Meta and Google campaigns the same week. Either way you get a plain answer inside the conversation, not a proposal deck, and nothing is spent until the fit and the availability are both confirmed.
