What a ChatGPT ad is, and what it is not
OpenAI has started showing ads inside ChatGPT. They are text-first placements with a link, clearly labelled Sponsored, and they sit separately from the answer, usually below it. The placement is matched to the topic of the conversation: someone asking about serviced apartments in Dubai Marina can see a Sponsored placement from a property company. OpenAI states that the ad does not change the answer itself, and advertisers never see the chat. You get a click and whatever your pixel records after it. Nothing more, nothing hidden.
What you cannot buy is a place inside the answer. When ChatGPT names three brokers or two clinics, that is earned from the open web: consistent listings, plain-text credentials, real reviews, mentions on sites other than your own. That is SEO and AI-search work, not media spend. Keep the two ideas apart from day one, because the budget, the timeline and the people doing the work are different. We draw the line in detail in paid ads vs free recommendation.
Who sees ChatGPT ads in the UAE
Ads appear on the Free tier and the low-cost Go tier. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users see none. In the UAE that matters more than in most markets: a large part of the Dubai and Abu Dhabi workforce uses ChatGPT at work on a company plan, so the people you reach with ads skew towards personal use on free accounts. Phone in hand, asking about a car, a school, a flat, a weekend in Ras Al Khaimah. Nobody under eighteen sees ads, and nothing runs next to health, mental health or political conversations.
The audience is also the UAE's audience: many nationalities, English as the working language, Arabic official, and Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog and Russian spoken at home. Targeting is by conversation topic, geography and language, so you can choose to speak only to English conversations in Dubai, or add Arabic for Emirati and Gulf-national buyers. Which language wins depends on what you sell and to whom; we go deeper in Arabic or English for ChatGPT ads in the UAE.
Step one: access. Step two: measurement
Early access has run through a limited set of advertisers and managed buys, with self-serve widening over time. Rollout is staged by country and by plan, and GCC availability changes. Whether a Dubai company can buy today, join a waitlist, or should prepare and wait is a WhatsApp question; we check the current status before anything is spent. Do not let anyone sell you a live UAE campaign as a certainty. Read are ChatGPT ads available in the UAE yet? for what to prepare in the meantime.
Measurement comes before the first dirham moves. OpenAI provides a conversion pixel for advertisers; we already run it on aahfil.com alongside a server-side conversions event that deduplicates the same purchase or lead firing twice. For a UAE business that means: the pixel on the site, a server event for purchases or WhatsApp leads, GA4 lined up, and a clear definition of what counts as a conversion. A viewing booked. An order paid in AED. A WhatsApp chat that turned into a quote. If you cannot name the conversion, you are not ready to spend.
Step three: launch. Step four: optimise
Launch is a landing page and a message, not a campaign structure. The page has to answer the question the person asked ChatGPT, in the same language, with a single next step, which in the Gulf is almost always WhatsApp. English first, because that is how most UAE conversations happen; Arabic where the buyer is Emirati or Gulf-national and the product deserves it. Creative is text-first, so the words carry everything: the offer, the location, the proof, the reason to tap now. A Dubai buyer who asked about a two-bedroom in JVC does not want your homepage.
Optimise means reading the pixel and the CRM together, not the ad platform alone. Which topics sent people who booked a viewing? Which language converted on WhatsApp? Which landing page lost them? Because pricing is by auction and not published, the first weeks are a test of intent, not a scale play. We hold budget back until the numbers say the channel earns its keep against your Google and Meta results, then we move it. We compare the channels honestly in ChatGPT ads vs Google vs Meta in the UAE.
What Aahfil does from Kuwait for UAE clients
Aahfil is a performance-marketing agency in Kuwait City that runs campaigns across the GCC, bilingual by design, measuring in tracked revenue rather than impressions. For UAE clients we handle the whole loop: the availability check, pixel and server-side setup, landing pages in English and Arabic, WhatsApp Business API flows so leads are answered in seconds rather than hours, and reporting in plain language. It is the same team that runs your Meta, Google, TikTok and Snapchat, so ChatGPT ads get judged against the channels you already pay for, not in isolation.
Here is the next step. Send us your website and what you sell in the UAE, plus roughly what you spend on ads today. We check availability for the UAE, tell you honestly whether it is worth it yet, and if it is, what the first month looks like: setup, budget thinking in AED, the landing page, the WhatsApp flow. If it is not worth it yet, we say so, and tell you what to prepare so you are first in line when it opens. No retainer for a channel that is not ready.
