the follow-up that knows when to stop

WhatsApp drip campaigns that follow up on time, and stop when the customer replies

A WhatsApp drip campaign is a series of messages sent over days after something happens: an enquiry, a sign-up, a purchase, a renewal date. On Gallabox, sequences start on the Essential plan. In Kuwait, every step outside the 24-hour window is a paid template, so the number of steps, their spacing and the rule that stops them are cost decisions.

What a drip sequence does

A drip sequence is a set of WhatsApp messages sent over days, starting when something happens and following rules you set. It does the follow-up your team means to do and often doesn't: the second message after an enquiry, the reminder before a renewal, the check-in after a delivery.

Uses that suit Kuwait businesses: following up a showroom or real-estate enquiry that went quiet; walking a new gym member or course student through their first week; nudging someone who asked for a quote and never confirmed; reminding customers before a membership, insurance or car-service renewal; and asking for a review a few days after a purchase.

In Gallabox you create a sequence, choose its trigger, add conditions that decide who enters and continues, and set delivery days and a time window. Contacts can be segmented by tags, contact fields, past actions and CRM data, and messages can carry images, video and links.

Sequences start on Essential, which includes 10. Advanced allows up to 100 and Enterprise has no cap. Basic has none.

Every step is a paid template

Most steps land outside the 24-hour customer-service window, so each one is a template and each one is billed by category. In Kuwait until 30 September 2026, that is $0.0341 for marketing and $0.0091 for utility. From 1 October 2026 it becomes $0.0792 and $0.044, and utility templates sent inside the 24-hour window are charged too.

A five-step sequence sends five paid messages to everyone who never replies, so length is a cost decision, not a style one. We usually start with three steps and add a fourth only when the results justify it.

Pick the category honestly for each step. A reminder that a contract is due is utility. The same reminder with a discount attached is marketing, and since 9 April 2025 Meta can reclassify a utility template it judges to be promotional. A sequence can mix both, as long as each template is labelled for what it says.

Spacing and per-person caps

WhatsApp limits how many marketing messages each person receives from all businesses, adjusts that limit per person and doesn't publish it. A step that gets held back returns error 131049, and the right response is to wait 24 hours before trying again, not to resend at once.

That changes how you space a sequence. Steps set days apart, rather than hours, leave room under the cap for the messages that matter and give the customer time to act. Use the delivery window to keep messages away from late night and Friday prayer, so they arrive when someone can read them.

Quality counts as well. Blocks and reports from a sequence weigh on your standing with Meta, and your portfolio's messaging limit — 250 for a new portfolio, rising through 2,000, 10,000 and 100,000 to unlimited — applies to sequence messages just as it does to broadcasts.

Stopping rules come first

The most important part of a sequence is how people leave it. Rule one: a reply ends the sequence for that person. Someone who answered is in a conversation now, and an automated 'just checking in' two days later reads as if nobody was listening. How that exit is wired depends on the trigger and conditions, so we test it before launch.

Rule two: a purchase, booking or signed contract ends it too. That usually means a tag or field updated from Shopify, your CRM or a webhook, which the sequence's conditions can look for.

Rule three: an opt-out ends everything. A 'Stop' button that tags the contact, and a condition that excludes that tag from every sequence and broadcast, is the minimum. Rule four: when a sequence runs out without a reply, stop. Move the contact into a segment for a later campaign instead of adding more steps.

Two languages and the Kuwait calendar

Build each sequence in Arabic and English, with the language held in a contact field so each person gets one version from start to finish. Write the Arabic for Kuwaiti readers from scratch; a follow-up that reads like a translation sounds as if nobody meant it.

Long-running sequences need a calendar check. Before Ramadan, move delivery windows to the hours your customers are awake and reachable, and review any cheerful promotional step that might land badly. Around Eid and National Day, decide whether a sequence should pause or carry a seasonal version. And ahead of 1 October 2026, re-cost every sequence that was built when Kuwait's utility messages were cheap.

How we set it up

  1. 01

    Choose the trigger

One clear event per sequence: an enquiry, a sign-up, a purchase or an approaching renewal.

  2. 02

    Write the steps twice

Arabic and English versions, a category chosen for each step, and as few steps as the job allows.

  3. 03

    Set conditions and exits

Who enters, who continues, and what takes a person out: a reply, a purchase or an opt-out.

  4. 04

    Set delivery days and hours

A window that fits your customers' week, adjusted for Ramadan and holidays.

  5. 05

    Watch the analytics and trim

After the first month we cut steps that don't move anyone and re-check the cost per sequence.

Kuwait & the GCC

What’s different here

October 2026 changes the maths

Kuwait's utility rate goes from $0.0091 to $0.044 and marketing from $0.0341 to $0.0792, before markup. A reminder sequence built on cheap utility messages needs re-costing.

Caps make spacing matter

Per-person marketing caps count every brand's messages. Space steps by days, and wait 24 hours after an error 131049.

Friday and Ramadan windows

Keep sends away from Friday prayer, and move the delivery window later in the day during Ramadan.

Stop on reply, in either language

Customers here answer in Arabic, English or a voice note. Whatever the reply, it should take them out of the sequence.

Frequently asked questions

Are drip campaigns available on the Basic plan?
No. Sequences start on Essential, which includes 10. Advanced allows up to 100 and Enterprise is unlimited.
How far apart should drip messages be?
Days rather than hours for most sequences. It leaves room under each person's marketing cap and gives the customer time to act. Keep the delivery window inside hours people are awake.
Do drip messages count toward WhatsApp's marketing limit?
Marketing templates do. WhatsApp limits marketing messages per person across all businesses and returns error 131049 when one is held back. Wait 24 hours before retrying.
What happens when a customer replies mid-sequence?
In our builds, the reply takes them out of the sequence and the chat goes to a person or a bot. We wire that exit through the sequence's conditions and test it before launch.
How much will a sequence cost after October 2026?
Each step outside the 24-hour window is a template: $0.0792 for marketing or $0.044 for utility in Kuwait, before the provider's markup. Multiply by the steps each person receives, then cut the ones that don't pay back.
